Research - Case study Auidence ( Niche )
Research - Audience
My target audience is going to be a niche audience but I wouldn't say its mainstream because not just everybody watches short films ,it more actual films they watch , it's a very small percentage that watch short films , for example filmmakers if we was talking demographics I would definitely say young people for example 16 - 24 that's quite a highly aimed target audience because its more inactive target audience I would say . I would say both genders are targeted but majority males because my short film is about a young male caught in the gang lifestyle . What I have researched I would say Male c1/2 , would be more responsive to this type of short film .
Primary research - Food fight ( film ) , which is a niche product , this was quite a independent film there was about 65 million dollars to make and it made 70,000 dollars at the box office . The film turned out to be one of the worst movies ever made. The reason I picked a niche is because a short film isn't mainstream it doesn't just appeal to anyone or everyone , its much easier to make my product niche because this short film is fairly independent. In terms of demographics , for example age , between the ages of 16 - 24 because that's what I believe my product will attract the most . In terms of race , I wouldn't want to particularly aim it towards a specific race because that would be limiting myself to choosing a certain type of race. Demographics is making breaking down a audience into age , gender and race particularly . There is something called a demographic table where a lot of definitions are spilt into a particular codes for example A , B ,C D and E . for example A is higher management bankers , lawyers , doctors etc. . So in terms of demographics I would defiantly this particular niche product is aimed at c squared - skilled manual workers , plumbers builders , blue collar jobs .
In terms of physiographic , in media terminology I would say there are about 7 terms which is what I will explaining for my target audience in general . The definition of physiographic segmentation would be that it divides the market into certain groups based on social class , personality characteristics , it fairly based on the type of products produced. In terms of physiographic I would say for this type of niche product it would targeted at explorers which are in this case , seeks discovery , energy individualism and experience . Values difference and adventure typically a young demographic , and because food fight is mainly about Dex Dogtective (Charlie Sheen), Daredevil Dan (Wayne Brady), Sunshine Goodness (Hilary Duff) and the other long-time residents of a supermarket city band together to prevent Lady X (Eva Longoria), the evil icon of Brand X, from taking over their world, its basically a kids movie .
In terms of competition I would say my competition is mainstream films because they supposedly appeal to a wider target audience , which could be quite difficult for my short film to fairly stand out .my other competition would actually be food fight , because it is also a niche film , which is what I am trying to achieve a niche product , its also demographically similar to my target audience . Competition wise I have a lot of products that I am going against , for example all the particular mainstream products that people produce have a much bigger budget and support them whereas me I don't have a budget nor a huge production team to help me out .
