Media language , there are a lot of media language used in this short film but some were very relatable some connote a lot of emotive language such as sadness and depression , by using many extreme and close up shots it allows the audience to see the emotion they are portraying it also gives use a clear picture of what is happening for example when they used a clear shot reverse shot , it shows the audience they are not just having a conversation they are having an argument , and by seeing the camera flick between shots for example you will see one person then you will see the other this is showing the audience a clear version , and it gives more in depth emotion for example as a viewer for me it builds up suspense . a screen shot is below . Also when they shot from a high angle and because this short film is all about actions and power , it shows that one of the characters are inferior to one another , almost as if they are trying to show to the viewers who is the superior one out the to , it connotes an act of weakness , because the camera is at a high angle to make someone look smaller or belittle by another person . The closes up and shot reverse shot also shows and indicates what the character is thinking , its the director job to big the size of the angle so the audience can unravel the meaning the scene , the close ups are there to portray the emotion they are expressing throughout the short film . The camera goes from an objective viewpoint or from a subjective position , in this case its quite objective , because of the short films point of view . The establishing shot placed in this are of the location where the shot film was shot in , this is to show the audience the established place and context of action , the establishing shots taken in this shot film were also called long shots , establishing shots in this case help the storyline move along so the audience follows everything that is going on , in my opinion it helps build a picture .
Also when the camera is tracking the person movement , so as their walking it feels as though you are walking with them , this is also a long shot , so it doesn't give away to the audience to much it just shows him walking through a forest by himself , by the camera tracking his every movement it could slowly build tension because , this could give the audience that time to think about what is going to happen next in this particular moment , and because the tracking is at a fast pace motion it makes your heart race but it would make the audience think why is he moving so fast and where is he going. Another media language would be the sound , the sound in this particular scene makes it even more dramatic and more intense with certain build ups to the scene . In terms of the structure to short film its linear , it has a beginning , middle and end .
The meaning behind this short film is that its to make people aware of the on going problem that is occurring in society is the fact that you have to be in a gang or use sometime of violence to gain somebody's respect , its about being in a extreme harsh situation and harsh times , it really relates back to reality where people are faced wit hard decisions , the response intended is to create awareness so that other people can always ash for help if they are facing these serious situations. Its just about general awareness to the public watching .
In terms of cinematography and lighting , they used different lighting for everything shot which I think is really good because it shows different contrasts for each frame . In terms of camera shots they used shot reverse shot , close ups and extreme close ups and establishing shots they used a range of everything , to show the different emotions and actions the actors portray .
In terms of sound they used a mixture of diegetic and non diegetic sound which I think is a nice mixture because they used a range of Foley sounds meaning they created all the sounds themselves they using simple equipment , for example a gun shot , was defiantly Foley sound because they cant actually fire a gun , they must of created some type of banging sound to make it sound like it was a gun shot . In terms of Mise en Scene for example , props location and costume they used a range of all three of them for example props such as phones guns masks money etc. , all of these props are symbolic for something , which is in involvement with the short film , each prop has a particular meaning its not just meaning use for the sake of it , because this short film is about gang violence and knife crime so therefore the props used are in connection with them and believe the way they have used the props are particular times is really smart on the media producer side . In terms of location they have included establishing shots of all the different locations they have used so they can show the audience where everything is happening , for example its like they are involving the viewers .
In terms of editing I think they have edited it really well , everything flows the audio levels are in sequence the transitions are smooth , the effects they used in this short film is dissolve and fade , this creates a transition between scenes so the viewers know that there is a different scene happening . In terms of the amount of takes they did for each scene I would say at least 5 takes for each scene because they have to have good continuity .
