Reflection ( Editing ) 4th - 17th may
This is just a brief reflection on how I edited and what I used to edit with , its me explaining what were my strong points when it came to editing and what were my weaknesses during the making of this short film , one of major things I enjoyed about editing this short film is that I knew exactly where I wanted all the footage to be placed , I knew how to put credits in / add different transitions , that wasn't exactly the hard part about editing the hard part was the fact that it was very hard for me to put the extra shots in for example shot reverse shot and close up shots that hadn't exactly taken while filming so I had to improvise and experiment with my editing skills a little bit so for example if I took a long shot I would just cut it with the cut tool then zoom in to make a close up shot , or if the scene required a different angle I would take the footage where I filmed it altogether but cut it to the particular point , I was really being quite experimental with my editing .
I think editing my short film was quite interesting because I had to take different parts from each piece of footage and instantly place them together , but I had to make sure it had a smooth transition but there was a lot that I missed out on while filming which was quite unfortunate because it made my job as the editor to make it more linear for example so that it had a beginning , middle and end ,which was quite a challenge because I made my story start differently because I made it start from when he told what happened about 3 years ago which made it quite relative to the story and it was told from his point of view which I thought was much better because it was told from the actual main characters view , so it still had a beginning , middle and end but it was told from a flashback .
I think overall I did quite a good job with my editing because I filmed quite a lot of footage so it was hard to condense it down to a certain number of minutes because I want to use a lot more footage than I have because it would of been very professional but also if I used the extra footage it would of been way too long which would of been a huge down side because if I was to submit this short film into a competition most of them only accept 5-6 min long short films .
The editing process took a duration of 2 weeks to edit due to the fact I was Constantly changing my mind when it came to how it look and what I want to use in it , it turns of time like I said in the previous paragraph it was made longer than expected because I incorporated a lot of scenes which needed to be put , on the other hand to me the whole thing seemed well edited and put together but . Personally I could put this together a it more better than I should of because I missed out a lot of things in terms of angles and camera work , if I had included that in the short film it would of gone much better , but in comparison to other things I have edited in the past this has to be some of my best work because of how much I took my time with this project .
To put all my footage together I used a very good software called premiere pro which was perfect for me because it was a software I had used many times and I was quite familiar with , so when it came to me editing my short film I found it quite easy but in terms of audio and structuring I struggled a lot due to the fact that I filmed it in small sections so therefore I had to make sure when I was putting it the order it should I had to play footage on either side of the screen so I could see what was putting on the timeline , because when I was filming I didn't exactly in scene order in fact I filmed the stabbing first before I filmed anything because it was less time consuming and I just thought I should get It out the way first , but in some cases when I was editing I found it quite hard because In some of the footage there was a quite mistakes for example there was an umbrella in one of the shots so therefore I couldn't exactly have that in my film so I found another take that I shot and I cut the other part with the umbrella and I replaced it with a new take of that small scene , that's why I had all my actors do the exact same thing when we was filming , it was for continuity purposes .
