Reflection - Research Development ( 19th march )
In terms of my research I was finding things that would help me develop my understanding about my final project because at first I didn't know exactly what I was going to do because I was really struggling to come up with ideas in terms of it being a music video or short film , in the end I decided to do a short film but I couldn't just throw myself in the deep end without any research or planning towards it so I made sure I was fully equipped with what a short film is and what exactly my short film was going to be about , so I really had to brainstorm ideas but I definitely had to take the theme into consideration which was fellowship so I really had to build in terms of what fellowship was and all the possible storylines that came with it . So I really wanted to build around this idea of fellowship because it was the theme that really stuck in my brain . So I eventually came up with gang violence and knife crime and I really had a lack of knowledge in terms of that so this is where my contextual research kicked in where I had to find facts and statistics about knife crime that has occurred in the UK or the rise in gang violence .In terms of contextual research I found it quite easy because I knew exactly what I was researching but it didn't exactly help me build my storyline it was just helping me gather a better understand in terms of gang violence and knife crime , I think the one thing that helped me build up my storyline was the theme , because my whole idea was based off that fellowships - friendship it corresponds so therefore that's how I built my storyline . In terms of my research development I had to consider every possible thing that I was references because it would highly benefit me when it came to filming my final project .
By doing contextual research it expanded my knowledge in the best way and it gave me a head start to develop and write myself a script in which I could develop along the way , the other contextual research I did was about short film and films in general , I wanted to research them to get inspiration and to guide me in the right direction to filming the right film , the films that really caught my attention were Boyz n the hood and short film like Shiros story and Drawn out , those particular storylines made me really think about my own , I went on to research films from the 90s and then compare them to the films that are in this day and age which I believe was a very successful comparison because it was something how much gang violence films have developed overtime , which is exactly what I wanted to us in my short film because its all about incorporating the old with the new and make something amazing . When I was researching I was considering all the possible factors that could happen during the making of my short film for example I researched poetry because when I did research about shiros story it has a bit of spoken word which I thought was quite interesting and different so therefore I thought if I did contextual research of my own then therefore I could decided what type of poetry I would like to put in it and because poetry is quite a unique thing , I had to see whether I would write my own poem or take a section of someone else and maybe get one of my actors to say .
Overall by me doing all of this research it has really developed my mind set in terms of what I would like to accomplish , when it came to researching what encourages gang violence and knife it came up with all sorts of theories and solution but , the one that was majority overruled was pre pressure which I believe links to my theme which is fellowship , and I think that , resulting to gang violence and knife crime has a lot to do with the crowd you fall in with in terms , the type of friendships you developed , or who you consider as a friend , so when I was researching I was thinking about who and what causes gang violence . I wanted to create awareness about this on going issues so therefore I have to think of what would be the best possible way to do which would be doing a short film about it by involving small sections of the short films I have researched . I think as a whole my research went really well I got everything I need in terms of contextual research .
