Reflection - Script writing (2nd April)
When I was writing the script for my short film Life Behind the mask I was honestly struggling because screenplay isn't really one of my strong points because before attempting to write this one I only had written one script prior to this one , so therefore my knowledge for screenplay was quite limited , I didn't know how to write a proper script I didn't know how to write the setting or the action or even indicate that a character was speaking I couldn't remember exactly what had to be written in capital letters , it was really hard for me because this was the first ever real script I had written so I wanted to make sure everything was perfect in terms of dialogue , setting , time , characters and action , but to be honest it really took me a while to finish writing an entire script based on just a rough idea . Despite having such little experience writing scripts I still managed to write a full draft script so I could show my teacher and he could make any adjustments necessary but out of all the production work I have done this was probably one of the hardest because really struggled in terms of placement and organisation but I still wrote it anyway despite me having a few difficulties , the website that I used to make the script is called celtx where it allows to create a full script about whatever you want , the website was quite straight forward to use I didn't have any trouble using that. I even used a previous script that was actually sent to me as guidance to help make my own script , so I was using that particular as not only a guide but a template , something that I could continuously look back on so that when I was struggling I would just look at where that particular bit was placed and I would see if I had the same .
Overall for my first script it went ok I managed to get the script in order and t made sense so I believe that was the most important , the reason I was writing the script is because it was going to be used as a rough version of my short film , because I purely wanted my short film to be as realistic as possible so if my actors were to memorise there lines then they would just being saying so therefore I wrote the script for myself and something for my actors to follow because my short film is purely improvisation because I believe that's what will work best inside of reading off the paper , I wanted the script to be as natural as it could be . Unfortunately I had quite a lot of script changes in terms the storyline kept changing at first it was jus purely going to be about a church boy and his family and how life was hard for him because he was also being sucked into the gang life and the other change which I believe are the right changes is its about a young boy who tells a bunch of young offenders about what happened to him when he was younger and how it dramatically changed his life , and being in a gang isn't all it cracks up to be . When I essential wrote the script I knew there could be a possibility for quite a few script changes because you can never be certain about what you want until time progresses .
The quality of the script turned out pretty nicely , the structure of it looked correct but I knew I had a few things wrong with but I still was quite proud that actually wrote a very complex script because it involved things such as narration and spoken word so I had to put that in a particular order , in terms of how it was all going to fall in place without the script looking to crazy but I managed to organise everything really well , like I said I was really happy with the script I produced it was roughly six or 7 pages long and it included brief bits of dialogue , more narration than dialogue because I wanted this short film to be more obversatinal than a verbal piece , because its all about technical side of things. In conclusion I didn't really enjoy screenplay writing but its defiantly a skill I need to have if I would like to continue down the filmmaking route .
